Your gig guide to 2014!

Well there’s no denying last year was a super for music and live shows.

2014 has a lot to compete with to continue making us beg for more amazing music, super groups and live gigs, oh the gigs!

Thankfully two weeks into the New Year 2013 looks tedious compared to the live gigs we can expect in the next few months; in this two-part piece we’ll take you on a guided tour of some of the best gigs you should get yourself down to in the next six months!

Here we go:

Lamb of God

16th – O2 Academy Glasgow

Pure gritty, down in the dirt, blast your ears off metal…the only way to start of your gigging year!

27th – O2 ABC Glasgow

Just over ten days to recover from Lamb of God (you’ll need it) and then get back on it for ska infused metal from the Welsh quintet when they perform tracks from their new album Kill the Power – with an absolute killer album to start the new year we can only imagine what the live experience is gonna be like!

Mayday Parade

28th – Queen Margaret Union

On the other hand if you like a little bit of pop and a little bit of soft, ‘I can still enjoy my brew’ rock then Mayday Parade are for you; probably so is there gig.

The 1975

7th – O2 Academy Glasgow

Following a great 2013 the Manchester lads are giving us one last taster of their debut self titled album. A night of indie rock with ridiculously catchy songs and beautiful hair from singer Matty Healy, what more could you want?

A Day to Remember

10th – O2 Academy Glasgow

ADTR will be storming into the Academy to melt our little rocker faces and make us ‘disrespect [our] surroundings’ with their almost hardcore beast of a back catalogue. We imagine the House Party Tour is going to be the best ADTR live offering!

Various Dates – SSE Hydro

Queen B…lets just leave it there.

8th – Glasgow Barrowlands

Scottish electro pop trio are coming home to let us dance our little hearts out to their mix of unique synth melodies. Lucky bunch that we are!

12th – Glasgow Barrowlands

The liveliest girls with guitars to ever take the stage with powerful, catchy and stylish music, not to mention the most luscious locks to come out of LA. HAIM has taken the UK by storm thanks to their debut release, Days Are Gone and now they’re back in 2014 to make us fall in love with them even more. The trio will be embarking on an eight day headline UK tour in March and The Edit will be there to ensure you guys get all the music gossip from the girls first hand.

Your Demise

12th – Glasgow Cathouse

The last ever Your Demise gig (this music editor is proper gutted). No more amazing selections of snapbacks and cult TV show merchandise as the Brighton quintet are saying goodbye to their brand of melodic hardcore tunes. Pass the tissues.

You Me At Six

Various Dates – O2 Academy Glasgow

Speaking to The Edit a few months ago drummer Dan Flint told us that we can expect Cavalier Youth to be the best YMAS album to date. After supporting rock giants 30 Seconds to Mars on their recent tour as a warm up and their stint in Wembley (The Final Night of Sin) this tour is gonna be biiiiiig.

Of Mice & Men

20th – O2 ABC Glasgow

Touring on the back of their new release, Restoring Force, the Orange County metalcore quintet are bringing something new to the genre…probably some more fan girls.

Justin Timberlake

Various Dates – SSE Hydro

Mr Timberlake will be gracing the ears of Glasgow with his catchy pop songs and, obviously, his rather dapper attire and handsome face.

Various Dates – SSE Hydro

What do you get when you add McFly and Busted (minus a Mr Charlie Simpson)? You get a super group that’s what! I’VE BEEN TO THE YEAR 3000 WITH FIVE COLOURS IN MY HAIR! No shame.

Panic! At The Disco

7th – O2 Academy Glasgow

Apparently people still live in 2006, ach well we’re all for nostalgia. Would be worth it just to see ‘I Write Sins Not Tragedies’ one more time.

Miley Cyrus

12th – SSE Hydro

Probably expect some twerking, tongues sticking out and average tunes; head over if you’re into that kind of thing.

Little Mix

Various Dates – SECC, Clyde Auditorium

The first band to win the X Factor! This might be their only shining moment ever but the colourful pop stars have some great girl power songs to bop your heads along to.

Dolly Parton

Various Dates – SSE Hydro

Queen of country music. Queen of big blonde hair. Queen of acrylics. Basically the Queen is visiting us mere mortals to blast out some classics in the form of ‘Jolene’ and ‘9 to 5’ – maybe don’t accidently phone your boss when this comes on.
