Photo of the week: Hong Kong Horse Racing

One of the most popular past times to anyone who has been fortunate to visit Hong Kong is gambling. Ignoring the game of Majong – most easily compared to a game of cards (with the various hands one can get) but played with tiles – the most common time to gamble is the horse racing. For visitors, the best one is the hard-to-miss stadium in Happy Valley, known only as the Hong Kong Jockey Club. Frankly, it’s like the Grand National, but much more frequently held. And as with all good sporting events it’s not just about the sport!

For the token sum of HK$10 (less than a £1), you can get into the massive stadium and experience the buzz of the place. Whilst it’s Hong Kong, thus in China (not Japan…), it is full of a fantastic array of nationalities all there to enjoy themselves. If you get a chance to visit, i’m sure you won’t be disappointed!
