BEAUTY POST: What mascara is for you?

The Edit

Benefit’s ‘They’re Real’ mascara

Okay so unless you have been living under a rock or have been locked in a basement somewhere you will have heard of Benefit’s ‘They’re Real’ mascara. There is some serious hoo-ha swirling around this bit of makeup. It boasts of sinfully voluptuous volume and an obsidian colour payoff all for the princely sum of around £19.00. What makes this mascara so unique is its ball-tipped comb brush which you use to push up your lashes from the root after 2 coats of product.  In short: it’s Wonderbra for your lashes.

As much as I adore Benefit’s products, spending 19 quid on mascara every other month would result in my children been sustained on love and Weetabix. So before you pick up the phone to ring ‘the social’ on me, I have found a cheaper dupe that ticks all the boxes ‘They’re Real’ does.

Collection’s ‘Does it ALL 5 in 1’ mascara

Collection cosmetics has recently released a faboosh new mascara called ‘Does it all 5 in 1’, that incorporates the same ball-tipped comb brush. It is also intensely pigmented and doesn’t fallout during the course of the day giving you a ‘psychotic panda’ look. This product is a snip of the price at £5.99 so accommodates my student budget nicely and allows the children to eat a more balanced diet. Thank God as I think the ‘Dyno Rod’ man was sick of coming round our gaff. As you can see from the pictures, the results are almost identical. The only drawback of both products is they are a bugger to get off. I find it helps to hold a warm flannel against my eyes and then use an oil based eye makeup remover to tackle the rest. Don’t scrub, as you will look like you suffer from albinism after you reef out half your lashes. And not in a fun way either.
