Sports Saturday – The Last of the Summer Signings and UFC Tonight

It has certainly been a big week for Celtic this week as they managed to beat Dundee United with an 87th minute free kick from Anthony Stokes after qualifying for the Champion’s League earlier in the week.

The club had to battle back from a 2-0 loss in the first leg in Kazakhstan and did Scottish football proud by overcoming the deficit at home, winning 3-0, and ensuring Scottish representation in the Champions League.

Big European games is what the club and its fans wanted and they have definitely gotten what they asked for as they were drawn in a group with Barcelona, AC Milan and Ajax ensuring some huge games for fans to enjoy.

Few could argue though that the team that went life and death with Shakhter Karagandy has much of a chance in what might be the toughest group of the draw, which makes news of new signings all the more welcome.

Neil Lennon’s side has finally managed to get the signature of Schalke striker Teemu Pukki, as well as Israeli midfielder Nir Biton, with Man United left back Alex Buttner and Peterborough striker Lee Tomlin also on the manager’s wish list.

In the other big transfer news of the week, Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale chase might finally be over as he agreed personal terms with the team ahead of a world record £86 million move.

There will also be some action in the fight world as UFC Lightweight champion Benson Henderson and Anthony Pettis will finally have their rematch after Pettis won the first fight with the kick that shook up the world.

Henderson will look to put the highlight reel ‘Showtime’ kick that he has no doubt seen a million times over by now in replays firmly behind him and erase his last loss since he powered to UFC gold after the closure of the WEC.

This will most definitely be one to watch tonight.

NEXT TIME: there will of course be more summer signings as the transfer window draws shut. Also look for the promotion for Floyd Mayweather’s next fight to start up as he gets ready to fight Mexican star Canelo Alvarez in one of the biggest fights in recent years in a little over a couple of weeks time.
