Lead singer of Welsh rock band Lostprophets appeared in Cardiff Crown Court today accused of 24 separate sexual offences against children, including two charges of raping a baby.

Ian Watkins, 35, from Pontypridd, South Wales appeared via video link along with two women charged with similar offences.

The court heard Mr Watkins deny the charges held against him including 11 counts of making indecent images, one of sexual assault and one charge of conspiracy to raping a child.

Both women, who have not been named, also deny the charges which total to 32 offences collectively.

Alternative rock band Lostprophets have sold 3.5 million records worldwide after reaching stardom in the rock world with their first single ‘Shinobi vs. Dragon Ninja’ from the album Thefakesoundofprogress; their most recent album, Weapons reached nine in the UK charts.

Band mates of the singer posted a message on their official website after Mr Watkins first appeared in court last year: “Following charges made today against Ian Watkins, we find ourselves in a state of shock. We are learning about the details of the investigation along with you. It is a difficult time for us and our families, and we want to thank our fans for their support as we seek answers. Jamie, Lee, Luke, Mike and Stu.”

Mr Watkins was arrested in December 2012 in relation to sexual offence accusations between March 2007 and the time of his arrest.

The next hearing will take place on Thursday (6 June 2013) when Judge Ree is expected to set the trial date.

All three accused remain in custody.
